The National Palace is the seat of the federal executive and official presidential residence, located on Mexico City's main square with a red tezontle facade spanning over 200 meters. Visitors can view Diego Rivera's monumental murals depicting Mexican history from pre-Hispanic times through the 20th century, including a 450 square meter stairwell mural titled 'The Epic of the Mexican People,' along with historical documents and the Chamber of Deputies where the 1857 Reform Constitution was drafted. The palace's central balcony is where the President of Mexico rings the original bell from the Mexican Independence movement each September 15.
