The Royal Castle is a state museum and national historical monument that formerly served as the official royal residence of Polish monarchs from the 16th century until 1795, housing the personal offices of the king and administrative offices of the royal court. Visitors can view a significant collection of Polish and European art, and explore the site where the Constitution of 3 May 1791—Europe's first and the world's second-oldest codified national constitution—was drafted. The castle was completely destroyed during World War II and meticulously reconstructed between 1971-1984 to restore its original 17th-century appearance.
