What to expect
The trail runs along dramatic sandstone bluffs above the Pacific, past preserved Victorian-era ranch buildings and working farmland, with side trails down to secluded coves and tidepools. Depending on season, gray whales and pods of dolphins are visible offshore. It's quieter and wilder than anything near the pier.

About 10 minutes' drive from the harbor; go at sunrise for best light and cool temperatures, and check the visitor center for the day's docent hike schedule before you go.
