Sunset Walk & Storytelling with a Qikiqtarjuaq Elder

Sit with a community elder over tea and bannock as they share Inuit oral history, throat-singing, and the story of the settlement's move from Broughton Island.

What to expect

You're welcomed into a community space or an elder's home, offered tea and bannock, and listen as they recount hunting on the sea ice, the community's relocation history, and changes they've watched in the climate and wildlife. Questions are encouraged; photos only with permission. It runs unhurried, guided entirely by what the elder wants to share that day.

Good to know

Arrange through the HTO office as soon as you're ashore, since availability depends on which elders are free; bring a small gift of appreciation and be flexible with timing.
