Swim and scramble through a string of turquoise pools and a hidden underground grotto at a falls far less visited than Dunn's River, guided by someone who grew up on this river.
What to expect
A local river guide leads you barefoot or in water shoes over smooth rock through a series of cool pools, culminating in a swim beneath the main 30-foot falls and, tide permitting, into a small underground cavern. The rainforest setting is dense and largely untouched. Bring dry clothes for after.
Good to know
About 40 minutes from Port Antonio pier near Manchioneal; hire a driver-guide who bundles transport and river guiding. Wear reef-safe sandals; go mid-morning for good light and fewer visitors.
