Drive south along the coast to Essaouira's blue-and-white medina, ramparts, and fishing port — a UNESCO town with none of Marrakech's crush.
What to expect
About 90 minutes from Safi, Essaouira opens onto wind-scoured ramparts, a working fishing harbor loud with gulls and grilled sardines, and a medina of art galleries and woodworking shops. You walk the Skala du Port fortifications, browse thuya-wood workshops, and lunch on the harborside catch.
Good to know
Round trip is roughly 3-4 hours' driving — plan for a 9+ hour port day. Wind is constant, even in summer; bring a light jacket.
