Ettrick Bay Beach Walk & Tearoom

A wide, near-empty white sand beach on Bute's west coast, with a simple tearoom serving scones — the unhurried, local way to spend a free afternoon.

What to expect

A short drive or taxi from Rothesay brings you to a sweeping curve of pale sand backed by dunes and machair, with views across to the mountains of Arran. Locals walk dogs and children paddle, but it rarely feels busy even in summer. The tearoom by the car park does a proper Scottish cream tea, which is really the whole point.

Good to know

About 15-20 minutes by taxi from the pier; no advance booking needed. Best at low tide; check tearoom hours as they can be seasonal/limited.
