Free walk-through of the working tortoise breeding program that saved the species, led by a station naturalist who explains what's actually at stake.
What to expect
You'll walk trails past tortoise breeding pens including descendants of the program that pulled several subspecies back from near-extinction, with signage and (if arranged) a naturalist who can go deep on the science. It's unhurried, shaded, and genuinely educational rather than performative.
Good to know
Open 8am-6pm daily, a 10-15 minute walk from the pier along the waterfront — easily done solo before or after any other plan. Go early to beat cruise ship crowds and midday heat.
