You'll walk a working cattle ranch turned tortoise haven, spotting dozens of tortoises grazing, wallowing in mud pools, or crossing the road at their own glacial pace. Your guide explains migration patterns, shell-dome differences by island, and the conservation story behind their comeback. Boots get muddy; bring a light rain jacket for highland drizzle (garúa). Rubber boots often available for rent on-site.
Good to know
Best done first thing after landing, before midday tour groups arrive; a 30-40 minute drive from Puerto Ayora, easily combined with the lava tunnels nearby. Book the guide privately in advance rather than joining a shared van.
