What to expect
You board a small, sturdy boat directly from Gjesvær's tiny harbour and head out past skerries toward the towering Stappan cliffs. As you near the colony, the noise and smell of tens of thousands of nesting birds hits before the sight does — puffins bobbing alongside, gannets diving, white-tailed eagles patrolling above. The skipper cuts the engine to drift close, narrating the colony's rhythms in real time. It's raw, weather-dependent, and utterly unlike anything scripted.

Runs May–August only when birds are present; dress for cold spray regardless of season, and book the earliest morning departure for calmer seas and best light. Trip departs a short walk from the pier — confirm timing against your ship's all-aboard, as weather can shift the schedule.
