Plunge into the world's largest urban rainforest on an open-top 4×4 Jeep, hunting hidden waterfalls, rare orchids, and monkeys in the canopy above Rio's skyline. Thrilling, beautiful, and utterly unlike any city tour.
What to expect
The Jeep departs the port and within 20 minutes you're deep in Tijuca National Park — 32 square kilometres of restored Atlantic rainforest that once covered the entire city. Your naturalist driver-guide navigates steep cobbled tracks to the Cascatinha Taunay waterfall, where you can swim in a cool natural pool. The trail continues to the Vista Chinesa pagoda, an incongruous 1920s belvedere perched above the south zone with jaw-dropping views of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and the beaches beyond. Look up: squirrel monkeys and toucans are reliable sightings year-round.
Good to know
Half-day format (4 hrs) makes it very manageable against an all-aboard. Bring insect repellent, swimwear if you want to dip at the waterfall, and a light layer. Jeep seats are open-air — sunscreen essential. Available year-round but forest is most dramatic and green after rain.
