Marvel at Pamukkale's cascading white travertine terraces — a UNESCO World Heritage landscape unlike anything else on Earth — then explore the remarkably intact Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis above it. One of Turkey's absolute once-in-a-lifetime sights.
What to expect
A chauffeured luxury minivan collects you dockside for the scenic 2.5-hour drive inland through Aegean olive groves and tobacco fields. At Pamukkale, you step barefoot onto the dazzling white calcium terraces, the warm mineral-rich water pooling around your feet — a surreal, other-worldly sensation. Above, the ruined city of Hierapolis reveals a Roman theatre carved into the hillside, a vast necropolis, and the sacred Plutonium (gate to the underworld). Lunch is taken at a terrace restaurant overlooking the white cascades before the return drive to Izmir.
Good to know
This is a long day — approximately 10–11 hours including travel. It is best suited to port days with a late all-aboard (18:00 or later). Pre-book your private vehicle and guide to lock in a dawn departure. Bring a bag for your shoes at the terraces; wet feet are part of the experience.
