Yu Garden & Old City: Private Half-Day with a Master Guide

Step inside a sublime Ming Dynasty sanctuary hidden within the city's buzzing heart. Rockeries, koi ponds, latticed pavilions, and 400-year-old ginkgo trees make Yu Garden one of China's most exquisite classical gardens — pure bucket-list when explored privately.

What to expect

Enter through the dragon-crested walls into six distinct garden courtyards, each a miniature universe of classical Chinese design. Your guide narrates the garden's turbulent history from 16th-century mandarin retreat to wartime refuge. Afterwards, weave through the Yuyuan Bazaar's timber-framed lanes to a century-old dim sum house for xiaolongbao before returning to port.
