Drift through 1,700 years of history on a private gondola along willow-draped canals, stone-arch bridges, and Ming-Qing Dynasty merchant houses just 40 km from Shanghai. Zhujiajiao is China's most atmospheric water town — and infinitely more tranquil than the city.
What to expect
Glide beneath 36 stone arch bridges on a wooden gondola poled by a local boatman, passing women washing vegetables at the water's edge and incense drifting from canal-side temples. Walk the cobbled Xijing Street market for hand-pulled rice cakes and ink-stone carvings. Visit the magnificent 5-span Fangsheng Bridge, the grandest in the region, for a panoramic view of the entire townscape.
Good to know
Zhujiajiao is ~60–70 minutes by private car from Wusongkou. A half-day (morning) excursion is tightest; a full-day is ideal — confirm your all-aboard time and book accordingly. Gondola rides sell out by late morning on weekends; pre-arrange through your guide.
