Two of China's most revered Buddhist sanctuaries in a single private half-day — the ancient Longhua Pagoda rising above its peach-blossom gardens, and the Jade Buddha Temple housing two breathtaking Burmese jade Buddhas carved from a single stone. Spiritual, beautiful, and utterly authentic.
What to expect
Begin at Longhua Temple (3rd century AD), Shanghai's oldest and largest, where monks in saffron robes tend incense coils and the seven-storey pagoda casts long shadows over blooming gardens. Your guide explains the significance of the 100-bell ceremony unique to Longhua. Continue to the Jade Buddha Temple to stand before the 1.9-metre seated Buddha, its serene face carved from a single piece of Burmese jade — one of the most revered objects in Chinese Buddhism.
Good to know
Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) for both temples; scarves available at the gate. Longhua is ~50 minutes from Wusongkou; Jade Buddha Temple a further 20 minutes. Morning visits (before 10am) are quietest and most atmospheric. Pre-book with China Shore Excursion to secure private vehicle and timed entry.
