Glide effortlessly through the steep terraced vineyards and apricot orchards of the UNESCO Wachau Valley on a premium e-bike, tracing the Danube cycle path between Dürnstein and the wine village of Weißenkirchen. Consistently rated one of the best experiences on any Danube river cruise.
What to expect
Setting off from Dürnstein's quayside, the cycle path hugs the river through a landscape that has barely changed since medieval times — terraced Riesling vines climbing impossibly steep hillsides, Baroque church spires punctuating the valley, and the Danube shimmering alongside. The 12km ride to Weißenkirchen is achievable in under an hour at a leisurely pace, leaving ample time to stop at a Heurigen for a glass of local Federspiel and a plate of Liptauer cheese. The return is equally effortless on the e-assist, and you'll arrive back at the quay exhilarated, unhurried, and thoroughly connected to the valley.
Good to know
Bikes can be collected near the Dürnstein dock; book in advance especially in peak season (May–October). A guided small-group e-bike tour is recommended for first-timers to the valley. The full Dürnstein–Weißenkirchen round trip takes 2.5–3.5 hours with stops — confirm your all-aboard time and plan accordingly.
