Ride the chairlift to the summit ridge of Caberfae Peaks — Michigan's oldest ski resort — for sweeping panoramas across the northern Lower Peninsula's endless forest canopy. In summer, the mountain transforms into a serene highland escape.
What to expect
The 20-minute drive from Cadillac through rolling farm country and forest sets the tone before the chairlift sweeps you effortlessly above the treeline. At the summit (approx. 1,476 ft / 450 m), a network of walking trails follows the ridge with 360° views across Wexford and Manistee counties — on clear days you can see the shimmer of Lake Michigan to the west. A lodge at the top serves Michigan craft beers and locally sourced snacks; linger as long as you like before the gentle chairlift descent. The resort's quietude in summer makes this feel entirely private.
Good to know
Caberfae is approx. 15 miles / 30 min from Cadillac — arrange a private car or taxi in advance. Summer chairlift operation is seasonal; confirm dates and hours directly with the resort before booking your cruise itinerary. Comfortable walking shoes sufficient.
