Board one of the world's most dramatic mountain railways, climbing from sea level through plunging gorges, across steel bridges, and deep into sub-Arctic wilderness to the Swedish border at Riksgränsen. An engineering marvel and a landscape masterpiece rolled into one unforgettable journey.
What to expect
Departing Narvik station (a 10-minute walk from the pier), the train immediately begins its legendary climb through 20 tunnels and across the iconic Norddal Bridge. Snow-capped peaks, mirror-still mountain lakes, and dense birch forest scroll past the panoramic windows. Riksgränsen station, sitting on the Norwegian-Swedish border at 508 m, offers a mountain hotel, café, and marked walking trails. The return journey is equally spectacular, now with the full sweep of Ofotfjord revealed ahead of you.
