Cast for legendary Atlantic tarpon and hard-fighting peacock bass on the glassy waters of Gatún Lake, rated among the world's top freshwater fishing destinations, aboard a private guided sportfishing vessel. A truly elite angling experience on an extraordinary man-made sea.
What to expect
Your private 24-foot centre-console launches from Gamboa (transfer from Cristobal ~35 min) at first light and targets peacock bass in the submerged forests — the lake's flooded trees create a maze of ambush points that these apex predators patrol relentlessly. Later in the day, the captain moves to deeper channels for tarpon, one of the ocean's greatest sportfish, which run up to 100 lbs in these waters. All rods, reels, lures, and bait are top-shelf; a cooler of cold drinks and a freshly prepared creole lunch keep energy levels high. No fishing licence is required for tourists — the captain handles all paperwork.
Good to know
Pre-arrange private transfer from Cristobal to Gamboa through the operator (~USD 25 per person). Full-day trip runs ~07:00–15:00, leaving comfortable time before all-aboard. Panama's tarpon season peaks April–June; peacock bass fish year-round. Catch-and-release is strongly encouraged for tarpon.
