Cross Japan's longest and highest pedestrian suspension bridge, suspended 173 m above a roaring twin-waterfall gorge in the Kuju Highlands. The 390-metre span delivers a heart-stopping bird's-eye panorama of ancient cedar forest and volcanic peaks — one of Kyushu's most exhilarating vistas.
What to expect
A private vehicle whisks you north through the volcanic Kuju landscape to the Kokonoe 'Yume' Otsurihashi Bridge. Step onto the glass-floored observation panels above the gorge for an almost surreal perspective over the twin waterfalls below. Crisp highland air and sweeping views of the Kuju mountain range surround you. Afterwards, stroll the forested boardwalks fringing the gorge before returning at your own unhurried pace.
Good to know
Bridge entry is included in the private excursion package. Wear comfortable walking shoes — there are steps at both bridge approaches. The highland altitude means temperatures can be cooler than the port; bring a light layer. Approximately 1 hr 40 min drive from port.
