What to expect
Departure begins around 2:00 AM from Probolinggo port to reach Cemorolawang village before ascending King Kong Hill for the pre-dawn light show. After sunrise, your private 4WD Jeep crosses the vast, moonscape 'Sea of Sand' (Lautan Pasir) to the base of Bromo's 253 steps leading to the crater rim. You peer into an active caldera belching white sulphurous smoke, framed by the towering peak of Semeru beyond.
