Cast a line in the crystal rivers of northern Iceland's interior for wild Arctic char and brown trout, guided by a specialist local angler who knows every pool. This is Icelandic fly-fishing at its most exclusive — remote, pristine, and world-class.
What to expect
Your private fishing guide collects you in Akureyri (a short ferry ride from Hrísey) and drives into the Icelandic highlands to a permitted beat on a renowned Arctic char or brown trout river. Waders, rods, and all equipment are provided; beginners can be coached, while experienced anglers will simply revel in the pristine conditions. Lunch is taken streamside with an Icelandic panorama of volcanic ridges and glacial peaks. The return drive via the fjord at golden-hour light is itself a landscape revelation.
Good to know
Advance booking of at least 2 weeks essential — river beats are licensed and limited. Depart Hrísey on the earliest morning ferry to maximise fishing time. Permits and beats vary by season; confirm availability of specific rivers when booking. Full waterproof gear is provided, but bring warm underlayers. All fishing is strictly catch-and-release.
