Tour Liepāja's architectural crown — the Great Amber Concert Hall (Lielais dzintars), designed by Volker Giencke and clad in shimmering amber-tinted glass. If a concert aligns with your call, this is one of the finest acoustic halls in the Baltics.
What to expect
The exterior is best seen from across the canal, where the amber-glass panels glow in any light. Inside, the main auditorium's warm wood panelling and sculpted ceiling create an intimacy that belies the hall's 960-seat capacity. The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1881, has performed here since the hall opened in 2015. Even a daytime architectural visit — walking the lobby, the terraces, and the canal-side promenade — is deeply satisfying. If a matinée or early evening concert is scheduled on your port day, this should be your evening anchor.
Good to know
Check the concert calendar on the official website well before your cruise date and book tickets directly. The hall is a 10-minute walk from the city centre along the canal. No formal dress code, but smart-casual is appropriate. Allow 45 minutes for a self-guided architectural visit, or 2–3 hours for a concert.
