Trek the forested trails of Ancon Hill — rising directly above Panama City — with a private naturalist guide at golden hour, emerging above the canopy to a panorama of the canal, the Pacific, and the glittering skyline below.
What to expect
Begin your ascent through dense tropical forest alive with the calls of toucans and parakeets, your guide pausing to spotlight a sloth camouflaged in the cecropia trees or a troupe of tamarins threading the understorey. The trail rises steeply but rewards you within 45 minutes with a summit panorama that defies belief: the full sweep of the Panama Canal entrance, the Bridge of the Americas arcing over the Pacific approach, and the glass towers of Panama City glittering in the morning light. Ancon Hill is also a site of political significance — it was the last piece of the former Canal Zone returned to Panamanian sovereignty in 1999.
