Tender or disembark by 8:30am, taxi to Casco Viejo (25–35 minutes), join a 9:30 or 10am tour. Finish by 1pm, eat nearby, and taxi back to the causeway by 1:45pm. Allow 45–60 minutes for the return leg and tender queue.
Skip everything canal-related. Miraflores traffic plus observation time makes it impossible to combine comfortably with a return buffer. The half-day plan is one focused excursion, not a greatest-hits sprint.
With a typical 7am–5pm or 6pm departure, start early. Tender or walk off by 8am and take Panama Canal Tour: Miraflores Locks and Canal Zone first (departs around 8:30–9am, returns to pier area by 1–2pm). If I could pick only one, I would take the Monkey & Sloth Panama Canal Boat Safari with Casco Viejo Brunch and call it a perfect day. At USD 70 per person it bundles wildlife, canal views and a meal in one operator-led package with strong reviews. Everything else becomes optional icing. The ship’s version of this combo will cost double or more for the identical itinerary and the identical risk of traffic.
