Deep-Sea Fishing: Catch, Tag & Release in the Bahamas

Head offshore from Ocean Cay aboard a dedicated sportfishing vessel for a 3-hour conservation-minded deep-sea fishing adventure. The open Atlantic awaits — and so do mahi-mahi, wahoo, and tuna.

What to expect

You depart from the Ocean Cay marina on a purpose-rigged sportfishing boat, heading to deep bluewater grounds in the Bahamas Bank where the captain's knowledge of local currents gives you a real shot at mahi-mahi, wahoo, kingfish, or tuna. All rods, reels, bait, and tackle are provided; the mate rigs your lines and coaches technique. Each catch is measured, tagged for the marine-reserve research programme, and released — the photo is your trophy. The 3-hour excursion returns with plenty of time remaining on the island.

Good to know

Dramamine or a scopolamine patch is strongly recommended if you're prone to motion sickness — the offshore grounds can have a pronounced swell. Wear polarised sunglasses and a hat; sun exposure is intense. Pre-book well in advance as the boat carries a small party of guests per trip.
