Trek to the windswept 750 m summit of Monte Verde — São Vicente's volcanic crown — for a 360° panorama spanning ocean, desert plains, and distant Santo Antão island. One of the Atlantic's most dramatic viewpoints, earned on foot.
What to expect
The trail begins in the cooler morning air, winding through scrubby vegetation and exposed lava ridges as the city of Mindelo shrinks below. At the summit, on clear days, the silhouette of Santo Antão rises from the sea like a mirage — a shot that defines any Cape Verde visit. Your guide shares the legend of Monte Verde as a navigation landmark for trans-Atlantic sailors for centuries. The descent follows an alternate ridge trail, offering entirely new perspectives on the island's patchwork of green valleys and golden desert.
Good to know
Allow approximately 3–4 hours round-trip including transfer. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring sun protection — the ridge is fully exposed. Book directly and confirm the morning slot to allow a comfortable return to port. Light layers recommended as summit winds can be brisk even in summer.
