Ferradura — Portuguese for 'horseshoe' — is Buzios' most perfectly shaped cove: a deep, sheltered arc of golden sand cupped by green hills with glassy, safe swimming waters. An afternoon here with a reserved beachfront barracas table is pure, unhurried luxury in one of Brazil's most beautiful natural settings.
What to expect
A private transfer winds through Buzios' residential hills before descending to Ferradura's perfect horseshoe of sand — the drama of arrival alone is worth the trip. The water is exceptionally calm and deep turquoise, sheltered from Atlantic swell, making it safe and beautiful for swimming. Top beach bar Barraca do Ze offers padê, seafood moqueca and chilled Chablis-style white wine served at your parasol table. Stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are available for hire directly on the beach. Sunsets behind the surrounding hills turn the cove orange-gold.
Good to know
Ferradura is 15–20 mins by taxi from the tender pier. Pre-arrange your return transfer with the same driver. All-aboard is typically 5–6 pm; departing the beach by 4 pm is wise. Bring cash (BRL) for beach bar tabs — card machines can be unreliable. The bay is sheltered and excellent for non-swimmers and families.
