What to expect
The hike to Keipen begins through birch forest before opening onto dramatic open ridgeline with increasingly spectacular views. Your guide narrates the geology, flora and bird life of the sub-Arctic terrain as you ascend — spotting golden eagle and ptarmigan is common in season. The summit rewards with a near-total horizon of island chains, fjords and, in clear conditions, the distant Lofoten peaks. The descent follows an alternative route, maximising the variety of landscape seen in a single hike. Hot drinks and local chocolate are carried by the guide.
