Journey 70 km north to Itacaré, one of Brazil's most celebrated surf and eco-tourism destinations, where Atlantic Forest waterfalls tumble to pristine beaches. Take a professional surf lesson, then trek to a hidden waterfall — the ultimate Bahian adventure day.
What to expect
The scenic 1-hour drive north along the Costa do Cacau rewards with views of coconut plantations and fishing villages. In Itacaré, a certified surf instructor meets you on Praia da Concha for a 2-hour lesson in warm, forgiving Atlantic surf. Post-lesson, a local trail guide leads a 90-minute forest trek to Cachoeira da Engenhoca, a series of cool freshwater cascades ideal for a refreshing dip. Lunch at a rustic beachside restaurant — fresh grilled fish and cold Brahma — rounds out the day before the return transfer.
Good to know
This is a long excursion — depart by 8:00 AM and allow 9–10 hours total; verify all-aboard time meticulously. Itacaré is approximately 70 km (1 hour) from Ilhéus port. Book surf lesson and guide in advance, especially December–March peak season. Rash guard, reef shoes, and a change of clothes strongly recommended.
