Venture to Viseisei — Fiji's oldest village and the legendary landing place of the first Fijians — then explore Lautoka, the 'Sugar City', with a local expert revealing layers of colonial, Indo-Fijian, and indigenous history few visitors ever access.
What to expect
Your guide collects you at Port Denarau and heads north along the Queens Road to Viseisei, where the community has welcomed respectful visitors for generations. Hear the oral history of Fijian origins at the ancient landing stone, walk the village pathways, and share kava with residents. Continue to Lautoka — Fiji's second city — to explore the colonial-era sugar mill precinct, the vibrant market, and the magnificent mosque and temple district that reflect Fiji's multicultural soul.
Good to know
Dress modestly for village visit (shoulders and knees covered; sulus/sarongs can be provided). Bring a small sevusevu gift (a bundle of kava root, approx. FJD 10, available at Nadi market en route) — your guide will advise. Lautoka is approximately 25 km north of Denarau (~35 min drive). Allow 5–6 hours; confirm all-aboard time when booking and build in a 45-min buffer.
