Akaroa: Stargazing Tour with Dual Telescopes & Souvenir Photos

Under some of the Southern Hemisphere's darkest skies, a dedicated astronomer guides you through a live tour of the Milky Way, southern constellations, and deep-space objects through powerful dual telescopes.

What to expect

Your host — a passionate local astronomer — sets up twin telescopes on a hilltop site with sweeping 360° dark-sky views, introducing you to the Southern Cross, the Magellanic Clouds, and constellations invisible from the Northern Hemisphere. You take turns at the eyepiece, gazing at star clusters, nebulae, and planets in vivid detail. The experience is narrated with compelling storytelling that blends Māori astronomical tradition with modern astrophysics. Souvenir photos of your night sky sightings are included.

Good to know

Evening tour — best suited to ships with a late all-aboard (typically 9–10pm or overnight calls). Dress warmly; hilltop temperatures drop significantly after dark. Maximum group sizes are kept small for a premium, interactive experience. Pre-booking essential. Confirm ship schedule before reserving.
