Foynes Flying Boat & Irish Coffee: The Original Experience

Step inside aviation's golden age at the world's only Flying Boat & Maritime Museum — right in the port. Then taste the very first Irish Coffee, invented here in 1943, made to the original recipe.

What to expect

Explore a beautifully curated collection of flying boat artefacts, an immersive 1940s-era cinema, and a life-size replica of the Boeing B-314 Clipper — the luxury airliner of its day. The Irish Coffee Experience re-creates the exact moment bartender Joe Sheridan added whiskey and cream to coffee for cold, weary transatlantic passengers in 1943. Knowledgeable staff bring the glamour of the era to life with personal anecdotes and period detail. Allow a full two hours to absorb everything at a leisurely pace.

Good to know

The museum is a five-minute walk from the cruise tender pier — no transport needed. Pre-book tickets online to skip any queue. Allow at least 90 minutes; the museum closes seasonally so confirm opening hours at flyingboatmuseum.com before sailing day. All-aboard timing is very comfortable from this location.
