Spend two immersive hours by zodiac with a professional Antarctic photography guide navigating Elephant Island's most dramatic glacial faces, iceberg gardens, and coastal light — returning with images worthy of National Geographic.
What to expect
Departing the ship before breakfast to catch the low polar light, your zodiac driver manoeuvres silently alongside towering ice cliffs streaked in cerulean and ivory. The photographer-guide coaches you on exposure settings for high-contrast ice, composition with wildlife, and capturing the scale of Antarctic geography. You drift under calving glacier faces, where the groaning and cracking of ancient ice provides a dramatic natural soundtrack. Post-session image review and editing tips are offered in the ship's lecture theatre.
Good to know
Suitable for all camera levels from mirrorless to iPhone — the guide adapts coaching to your equipment. A telephoto lens of at least 200mm and a polarising filter are strongly recommended. Bring a dry-bag for your gear; spray is inevitable. Pre-register with the expedition team at embarkation as places are strictly limited to 8 per session.
