Board a private wooden riverboat into Kopački Rit — one of Europe's largest and most biodiverse wetland reserves — for a guided wildlife safari through flooded forest channels teeming with white-tailed eagles, black storks, and Danube carp.
What to expect
The 30-minute transfer from Ilok to the park entrance passes through the Baranja agricultural plain before the landscape erupts into flooded willow and poplar forest. Your park-licensed boat captain and naturalist guide navigate channels where water lilies crowd the surface and cormorants dry their wings on every branch. In peak season (April–June) the bird density rivals the Danube Delta; in autumn, rutting red deer wade into the shallows. The silence — broken only by the punt of an oar and bird calls — is the antidote to a busy world.
Good to know
Kopački Rit is approximately 35–40 km from Ilok; arrange private taxi or minivan transfer (approx. EUR 50–70 return) in addition to the boat charter. Book the private boat directly with the park well in advance. Allow 4–5 hours total. Bring binoculars and a long camera lens.
