Go inside the working warehouse where Mardi Gras magic is created year-round. Walk among colossal parade floats in progress, meet master artisans, and understand the Crescent City's most extraordinary cultural obsession from the inside out.
What to expect
Located right on the river just minutes from the cruise terminal, Mardi Gras World opens its vast warehouses to visitors year-round. A costumed guide leads you through the studios where Blaine Kern's artisans — the 'float builders to the world' — are actively sculpting, painting, and assembling the next season's parade floats. You'll pose with enormous prop heads, learn the hierarchy of Carnival krewes, and sample a piece of traditional Mardi Gras King Cake while watching craftspeople at work. The private event option transforms the warehouse into an exclusive cocktail experience surrounded by the floats after hours.
Good to know
Mardi Gras World is approximately a 10-minute walk or 5-minute rideshare from the Julia Street Cruise Terminal — one of the most convenient excursions of all. Tours run throughout the day; 10 am–2 pm slots are least crowded. Book tickets directly at mardigrasworld.com. If travelling as a group and interested in a private after-hours event, contact their events team well in advance.
