Taste Grand Cru Classé de Graves wines at Château Pape Clément — one of the world's oldest continuously producing wine estates, founded in 1300, just 10 minutes from Bordeaux city — a rare blend of history, architecture, and exceptional viticulture.
What to expect
The estate's ornate iron gates open onto manicured gardens and a turreted manor where the tour begins with the extraordinary founding story: these vines were planted by Bertrand de Goth, who became Pope Clement V in 1305. A château guide leads you through the barrel cellars, the sculptural chai, and the sensory room before settling you at an oak table for a structured tasting of Grand Cru Classé de Graves reds and the estate's rare white. The prestige experience adds aged vertical vintages and a private reception room. The estate's epicurean shop allows you to take bottles home, beautifully gift-wrapped.
Good to know
Château Pape Clément is in Pessac, approximately 10–12 minutes by taxi from the Bordeaux cruise terminal — the closest Grand Cru to port. Book estate tours directly on the château website; prestige tasting slots are limited. Excellent for half a morning, leaving the afternoon free for the city.
