East Chop Lighthouse & Blufftop Panorama: Oak Bluffs' Hidden Crown

Climb to the Iron lighthouse perched on East Chop bluff — nicknamed 'Telegraph Hill' — for sweeping 360° views of Nantucket Sound, the Elizabeth Islands, and the Oak Bluffs shoreline below. An icon that rewards those willing to walk 15 minutes beyond the harbour.

What to expect

The pleasant walk north from the Oak Bluffs harbour along East Chop Drive reveals grand Victorian summer cottages before the white-painted cast-iron tower comes into view against open sky. Martha's Vineyard Museum volunteers open the lighthouse on select summer days and Sunday evenings at sunset — the latter being the most spectacular. Views sweep from the Cape Cod Canal to the Vineyard Sound ferries. The tower interior tells the full story of the island's maritime heritage.
