Flying Horses Carousel: A Ride on America's Oldest Platform Carousel

Whirl on hand-carved horses that have spun since 1876 — America's oldest platform carousel, a National Historic Landmark on Circuit Avenue. Grabbing the brass ring is one of New England's most endearing and genuinely rare bucket-list moments.

What to expect

Step into the lovingly preserved ride house on Circuit Avenue and choose your steed from 22 hand-carved horses, each with a real horsehair mane and glass eyes that have delighted riders for nearly 150 years. As the carousel gains speed, reach for one of the brass rings dispensed from a chute — catching the coveted brass ring earns a free ride. The whirl of painted panels, organ music, and sea-salt air creates a moment of pure, timeless joy. Utterly unique to Oak Bluffs.
