Scale the iconic volcanic peak overlooking Taolagnaro for a 360° panorama of the Indian Ocean, the Malagasy coastline, and the distant Andohahela massif — arguably the most dramatic single viewpoint in southern Madagascar.
What to expect
Your guide meets you at the pier and transfers you to the trailhead in under 15 minutes. The hike to the summit (approximately 529 m) winds through scrubby endemic vegetation, with increasing glimpses of the ocean as you ascend. At the top, twin bays frame Fort Dauphin below and the boundless Indian Ocean stretches to the horizon — one of those views that genuinely stops you in your tracks. The descent takes a different path, passing through a small Malagasy village where you can meet locals and pick up handcrafted souvenirs.
