Reach what National Geographic calls one of the world's most beautiful beaches — Lopes Mendes — by classic schooner, then trek back through Atlantic rainforest. Powder-white sand, crystalline surf, and total serenity await.
What to expect
Board a traditional wooden schooner at Abraão and glide 40 minutes south to Lopes Mendes, a 3 km arc of blinding white sand backed by dense jungle and zero development. Swim in the powerful, warm Atlantic surf, then take the well-marked 8 km forest trail back to Abraão past waterfalls and wildlife. The trail is shaded and well-signed; local guides are available at the beach for a richer natural history experience.
Good to know
Schooners depart Abraão 09:00–10:30; the return trek takes 2.5–3 hours, leaving ample time before all-aboard. Book the boat at the pier cooperative booths or online; hire a certified guide directly at Lopes Mendes. Bring water (2L+), trail shoes, and insect repellent.
