Discover the extraordinary rewilded landscapes of Goeree-Overflakkee island on a private nature safari, culminating at Faunapark Flakkee where European bison, Konik horses, and red deer roam vast open reserves. A rare wildlife spectacle in the heart of the Dutch delta.
What to expect
Goeree-Overflakkee, just across the Grevelingendam from Bruinisse, is one of the Netherlands' great rewilding success stories: former agricultural polders returned to nature and now home to thriving herds of European bison, Konik wild horses, red deer, and spectacular birdlife including white-tailed eagles. At Faunapark Flakkee, a private ranger guide leads your group in an open-sided vehicle through the reserve at dawn or mid-morning — the prime wildlife windows. The ranger explains the extraordinary backstory of European bison reintroduction and points out birds of prey, otters, and migratory waders with expert precision. It is a world-class wildlife encounter in a completely unexpected setting.
