Manila Bay Cruise: Worth It?

A Manila Bay cruise is a straightforward 2-3 hour boat ride that gives you decent views of the city skyline, the bay, and often a sunset if you time it right. Expect a buffet dinner with a mix of Filipino and international dishes, live music (usually a singer doing covers), and a somewhat touristy atmosphere. The boats are stable and air-conditioned inside, with open decks for photos. It's not a luxury experience but it's relaxing after a hectic day in the city. The route stays mostly within the bay so seas are generally calm unless there's bad weather.

Best time is November to April during the dry season when sunsets are clearer and rain is unlikely. Sunset departures around 5-6pm usually offer the nicest light. Expect to pay around $25-55 per person depending on whether you book the basic cruise or one with better food and seating. Transfers from Makati or Intramuros can add $5-15.

Pick the standard sunset dinner cruise from one of the established operators; it's the best balance of price and experience. Skip the super-yacht "premium" options that cost triple unless you really want the smaller group and fancier plating; the views and food aren't three times better. Bring small bills for tips and don't expect fine dining quality.
