Pagsanjan Falls rafting is a full-day adventure that takes you about two hours outside Manila. You ride a traditional bamboo raft steered by two local boatmen through a narrow river gorge with towering cliffs and small rapids. The highlight is shooting the final stretch of rapids right up to the base of the 100-meter waterfall, then usually swimming or climbing behind the falls if water levels allow. The return trip is mostly paddling back downstream. Expect a physically active 8–10 hour day door-to-door, including transfers. It’s more thrilling than peaceful, but the scenery is genuinely impressive once you leave the traffic behind.
Best time is December to May (dry season). The river has better flow and the water is clearer; June to November can be too rainy, with frequent cancellations or muddy conditions. Expect to pay around $180–280 per person from Manila for a private or small-group tour that includes transport, guide, rafting fees, life vests, and lunch. Cheaper group tours exist but often mean larger vans and longer waits.
Tip: Book a private or semi-private option with early pickup if you hate crowds and want decent photos; the shared tours can get chaotic at the launch point. Skip the optional “shooting the rapids” photos sold on-site — they’re overpriced and usually mediocre. Bring quick-dry clothes, reef-safe sunscreen, and a dry bag for your phone.
