Block Printing Workshop in Mumbai: Worth It?

Expect a hands-on afternoon where you carve or stamp your own wooden blocks, then apply natural dyes to cotton or silk. Most sessions run 2-4 hours and include a quick demo, materials, and help from the instructor. You'll leave with a scarf, tote, or small fabric piece you actually made. It's genuinely satisfying if you like making things, less so if you're after a polished souvenir without effort. The workshops are usually in small studios in areas like Bandra or Lower Parel - casual, a bit messy, and often with other travelers.

Best time is November to February when it's cooler and less humid; the dyes dry faster and Mumbai isn't a sweatbox. Expect to pay around ₹2,000-4,000 per person depending on duration and what you take home. It's cheaper than similar experiences in Rajasthan but still decent quality.

Tip: Skip the big group sessions if you can and book something with max 6 people so you get real attention on your carving. Definitely pick natural indigo or madder dyes over the bright chemical ones - they look better after washing. Bring an apron or wear clothes you don't mind staining.
