Most boat tours in Los Cabos follow the same route: they leave from the marina in Cabo San Lucas, cruise past the hotels, and head to Land's End to see El Arco, the sea lion colony, and the point where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez. Expect 45-minute sightseeing trips or longer 3-hour versions that include snorkeling at Chileno Bay or Lovers Beach time. The water is usually clear, the ride can get choppy near the arch, and the boats range from basic skiffs to big catamarans with loud music and an open bar. It's touristy but still one of the best ways to see the dramatic coastline that you can't reach by road.
The best time is November through May when the water is calmer and whale watching is possible. Summers are hot, the Sea of Cortez can be glassy in the morning but afternoon winds often kick up. Expect to pay around $40–$80 per person for a basic sightseeing tour and $90–$150 for the snorkeling or sunset versions with drinks and gear. Private boats obviously cost more.
Tip: Choose a smaller morning tour if you want decent snorkeling and to avoid the party boats—afternoon trips are often crowded and boozy. Skip the cheapest open-bar sunset cruises unless you enjoy loud music and crowds; they're more floating bar than scenic experience.
