Most boat tours from Nadi head to the nearby Mamanuca Islands or up the Sigatoka River. Expect a full-day trip involving some combination of cruising, swimming or snorkeling, lunch, and time on a beach or floating platform. The Mamanuca trips are the classic choice: you’ll spend hours on the water with stops for reef snorkeling in clear but not mind-blowing water. The jet boat safari on the Sigatoka is shorter, louder, and more about the river scenery and a bit of adrenaline. Both are fine for a day out of Nadi, but neither will be the most pristine experience in Fiji if you’re heading to the outer islands later.
The dry season from May to October is noticeably better — calmer seas, less rain, and better visibility. November to April can still work but expect more wind, swell, and the chance of tours being canceled or rerouted. Expect to pay around $150–$280 per person depending on whether it’s a basic half-day river trip or a full Mamanuca day with meals and snorkel gear. Book directly through your hotel or a reputable local operator rather than the cheapest online deal; the difference in boat quality and safety standards is real.
Pick the Mamanuca catamaran trip if you want to actually swim and relax. Skip the floating bar party boats if you’re after peace and quiet. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and motion-sickness remedies if the swell is up — the ride back can be bumpy.
