A day trip to Bruges from Brussels is straightforward and very popular. The train takes about an hour each way, but most people book an organized trip with transport and a guide. Expect a pleasant but busy experience: you'll get a walking tour of the medieval center, see the canals, and have a few hours of free time. The town is undeniably pretty, but it gets crowded with day-trippers. In high season it can feel like a theme park version of old Flanders rather than a lived-in city. Still, for most first-time visitors it's a solid way to see something very different from Brussels in one day.

The best time is April–June or September–early October when the weather is decent and crowds are slightly thinner than July–August. Expect to pay around €70–€110 per person for a standard day trip including bus, guide, and some free time (train on your own is cheaper but less convenient). Add €15–25 for lunch and a canal boat ride if you want it. One honest tip: skip the overpriced tourist traps along the main canal and head a few streets back for better waffles or beer.
