Expect a pleasant but modest tropical garden filled with thousands of butterflies in a netted enclosure. It's compact – you can easily walk the whole thing in 30-45 minutes. The butterflies are beautiful and some will land on you if you stand still, especially if you're wearing bright colors. There's also a small insectarium with other creepy-crawlies and a decent gift shop. It's relaxing rather than mind-blowing; perfect if you like nature but don't want a full-day hike.
The best time is early morning (before 11am) when it's cooler and the butterflies are most active. Avoid midday heat and heavy rain seasons (Nov-Feb) if possible, though it's covered so rain won't stop you completely. Expect to pay around RM 50-80 for a standard ticket if going independently, or RM 150-280 if bundled into a half-day city tour with transport from central KL.
Tip: Combine it with the nearby Bird Park only if you're really into birds – otherwise the Butterfly Park stands alone fine and saves you time and money. Skip the overpriced souvenirs inside; similar ones are cheaper in Chinatown. Wear light-colored clothing and bring mosquito repellent for the garden areas.
