Seoul Cable Car: Worth It?

The Namsan cable car gives you a quick, smooth ride up to the observation tower with solid 360-degree views over Seoul’s skyscrapers, mountains, and river. Expect a 3-minute ascent in a glass gondola that can feel crowded on weekends. At the top you’ll find the tower, some cafes, and walking paths. The whole experience is straightforward and touristy – it’s not a wilderness adventure but it’s an easy way to get above the city without hiking.

Best time is late afternoon or early evening in spring (cherry blossoms) or autumn (fall colors). Summer is hazy and hot; winter can be freezing at the top but gives crisp night views if you don’t mind the cold. Expect to pay around $15–25 per person for a round-trip ticket, more if you add tower entry or book a bundled tour.

Tip: take the cable car up and walk down the trail instead – it’s a pleasant 30–40 minute descent through the forest and skips the queue for the return gondola. Skip the overpriced restaurants at the top; eat before or after in Myeongdong. Go on a weekday if you can.
